I am Head Nurse of the fantastic team of Nurses and Kennel Attendants at the Animal Emergency Service. I have completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology and Management as well as over 5 years of experience in emergency and critical care.

I enjoy the challenge of the work and find it very rewarding to make a critically sick animal better and reunited again with their family.

My household consists of 'Kaya' the very energetic black kelpie, Zahli the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who loves cuddles and 'Sullivan' the blue Indian Ringneck who loves to play 'peek-a-boo'.

I graduated from veterinary science in Brisbane in 2000. I have worked in the Emergency Service since its doors opened and have since gained membership qualifications in the field of Emergency and Critical Care. I am currently undergoing specialist training in the same field.

As director of the centre I am dedicated to providing exceptional after hours and emergency care for small animal companions. Jules and I have a menagerie of dogs, parrots, fish and turtles at home and enjoy boating, fishing and camping.

I am a qualified veterinary nurse with a PhD in zoology. I have worked as an Emergency nurse for 5 years and find my job challenging and rewarding. I am passionate about providing the very best veterinary care for companion animals. I enjoy going boating, fishing and camping and together with Rob I have a family of 3 dogs, 8 parrots, turtles and native fish at home.

I graduated from UQ in 2005 as one of 2 boys in a class of 30. I did 2 weeks of work experience at AES and realised emergency and after hours was for me. I have been working here ever since.

At home I have a Kelpie X named Tara, a Ridgeback named Harry and a naughty bird named Teal.

While it is challenging being one of 4 boys working with 28 women I find it extremely rewarding to be here for you and your pets when no one else is.

I graduated from the University of Queensland in 2004 and started work in a busy small animal practice on the south side. My history with the Animal Emergency Service first started before I graduated where I worked as a nurse, and the girls despaired over trying to train me how to constantly cleanup and monitor ten patients at once.

After 2 years in general practice I was seduced by the late starts and top-level facilities so like the prodigal son returned to where I was trained. I have come to love all aspects of emergency and critical care, however the most rewarding part of my job is delivering puppies.

I am continuing to study in this area and find it both a challenge but immensely rewarding career.

On a personal note, I have one spoilt little cat at home – a runty little Burmese named Chino who rules the household. I am looking for another playmate for her, preferably large so they can donate blood on occasion.

I have always loved animals and have been interested in the preservation of wildlife and the welfare of animals. I have a degree in wildlife biology and I have worked for 7 years in the zoo keeping industry. As a result of this I became interested more in the health side of animal care so I could look after the wildlife I was working with better.

I began to work towards becoming a veterinary nurse, and started at the bottom working at the Animal Emergency Service as a Kennel Attendant. Through a lot of perseverance and hard work I now work as a veterinary nurse. Because of my wildlife background I often get asked questions about wildlife that gets brought into the clinic and what the best course of action may be.

In the future I plan to combine my knowledge gained here with my wildlife background to do wildlife nursing possibly in a zoo.

Hi my name is Jodie. I joined the team at the Animal Emergency Service in 2001, and I am now a senior nurse with the practice. I love the challenge of emergency and critical care nursing and find it extremely rewarding.

I am currently studying Veterinary Nursing with the Australian Veterinary Nursing Resource Centre. I have always had a great admiration for animals. I started out in the animal care industry as a volunteer in local wildlife parks and hospitals, after completing a Bachelor of Science in Marine and Wildlife Biology at Griffith University 1999.

I have a special interest in animal welfare, and have re homed many stray animals including my three dogs Matrix, Jasper and Tesa.

I have wanted to work with animals my whole life but I took the scenic route. I graduated from The University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Animal Studies) majoring in recreational animals. However my life went in a different direction, after my degree, and I ended up doing office work, which I grew to love. Finally my career has lead me to my current position, Practice Administrator, melding my two passions; office work and animals.

Every afternoon there are my babies waiting for me. From the very big, Rascal my Great Dane, to the very tiny, Zoom Zoom my little black cat, Squeak my 15 year old cockatiel and Tubby my very active baby kitten. And these just name a few.

On occasions I foster newborn kittens who have lost their mum.

Dr Simon Lemin B.V.Sc., M.A.C.V.Sc. (Surgery)

I was born in Aberdeen in Scotland but came to live in Oz when I was 7 years old. I graduated from The University of Queensland in 1990 and after 7 years in general practice switched to the challenges and stimulation of emergency practice. Originally the position was supposed to be for a couple of months but 10 years later I am still here.

Since 1997 I have worked full time in the emergency centre. My special interests are emergency surgical intervention and ventilator medicine. I am a member of the college of veterinary scientists in the chapter of Small Animal Surgery. I am still genuinely excited by emergency medicine and love to come to work to see what cases come our way.

I have two children - the eldest one now works with us in the centre on Saturdays.
