Dr Alvaro Jordan Castillo commenced studies in medicine for humans but after two years he realised that if you aren’t covered in dog hair, your life is empty. He decided to take on the challenge of treating patients “who can’t tell me where it hurts” and he hasn’t looked back since.

Upon graduating, Dr Jordan completed an internship working with bottlenose dolphins in Oahu, Hawaii. He then relocated to the Gold Coast, Australia where he worked with the Animal Welfare League Queensland for four years before commencing with Animal Emergency Service in 2012.

Alvaro is proud to be a veterinarian at AES because of the Gold Standard of care for all patients as well as the unpredictability of the work that is always challenging and rewarding. “Knowing that you have the support from an extraordinary team of receptionists, nurses and vets make working at AES a real pleasure.” Alvaro’s has an interest in veterinary medicine is emergency and critical care including polytrauma, surgery and respiratory medicine. He is currently studying for Membership to the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in the Chapter of Emergency and Critical Care.

In his time-off, Alvaro enjoys wakeboarding, boating, surfing and playing squash. He also has a Golden Retriever called Paco described as “ridiculously good looking!” Paco enjoys joining Alvaro on adventures when they go kayaking, boating or swimming together.
